    Five Key Components of Active DAS

    Component Description
    Signal Sources An active DAS is robust, yet it relies on external sources for its signals. These signals come from various sources like service provider feeds, Node-Bs, and small cells, all housed in the head-end equipment room. This setup allows multiple service providers to contribute their signals, creating a versatile multi-carrier active distributed antenna system.
    POI Tray

    Positioned between signal sources and the head-end unit, it consolidates RF signals, managing downlink signals often powered at 40 W to prevent excessive power loss and heat buildup.

    Head-End Unit

    Located in the equipment room, it connects to the POI using band-specific RF modules and coaxial cables. It enhances signals by filtering and amplifying based on frequencies, facilitating zone-wise signal distribution.

    Radio Units Receive, sort by frequency, amplify, and transmit signals via antennas. These units vary by transmission power and supported frequencies, powered by AC or DC sources.
    Fibre Optic Cables Essential for linking all DAS components, these cables are thin, flexible, and lightweight, minimizing signal loss. They support Single-Mode (SM) or Multi-Mode (MM) options based on signal type and transmission needs.

     

    Understanding these components highlights how Active DAS powers wireless networks in environments like airports or shopping complexes, ensuring seamless communication despite structural challenges.
