Connectivity That Builds Success

The Raubex Group was established in 1974 and has grown into one of South Africa’s leading infrastructure development and construction materials supply groups. With more than 30 years of experience in the Southern African construction industry, the group has built a strong reputation for quality, reliability, and large-scale project delivery.

The group is structured into four core divisions:

  • Materials Handling – focusing on the processing and supply of construction materials.
  • Infrastructure – delivering large-scale civil and road construction projects.
  • Mining Services – specialising in contract mining and earthworks.
  • Roads and Earthworks – recognised for expertise in road construction and rehabilitation.

The Problem

Raubex Construction (Pty) Ltd Heilbron site faced persistent cellular connectivity problems that impacted day-to-day operations. Due to the site’s semi-rural location and distance from the nearest cellular towers, the available signal was weak, inconsistent, and prone to dropping completely.

This lack of reliable coverage created several challenges:

  • Communication Breakdowns – Staff struggled to make and receive calls, which delayed coordination between teams on-site and management at head office.
  • Operational Inefficiencies – Mobile devices, used for project management, reporting, and data transfers, often failed to connect properly, slowing down workflows.
  • Safety Concerns – With poor signal, urgent communication during safety checks or incidents could not always be guaranteed, posing risks in a high-demand construction environment.
  • Frustration for Staff – Employees experienced frequent interruptions, which lowered productivity and morale.

Raubex required a reliable, multi-network solution that could deliver strong and consistent mobile connectivity in the Office area, ensuring that communication and operations could run smoothly.

Solution

Following a detailed site survey, Bolton Technical designed a tailored solution to overcome these challenges.

The system included:

  • WilsonPro A1000 Amplifier – the core of the installation, boosting multi-carrier cellular signal.
  • Bolton Arrow LPDA Antennas (x2) – high-gain directional antennas mounted externally on masts to capture and feed stronger signal into the system.
  • Sector Panel Antenna (14 dBi) – to distribute enhanced coverage across the site.
  • Wideband Splitter & Low Loss Bolton400 Cable – ensuring stable signal distribution to multiple internal points.
  • Lightning Surge Protection – to safeguard the system against power surges.

All equipment was strategically placed to maximise coverage and performance, with antenna positioning guided by the strongest available donor signals identified during the site survey.

Installation

The installation included mounting the external LPDA antennas on masts to capture the best possible signal. Cables were routed into the weather-protected equipment housing, where the amplifier and distribution system were installed. The internal panel antenna was then optimally placed to broadcast the improved signal across the site’s offices and operational areas.

Despite minor challenges due to the site’s layout, Our team ensured a seamless installation with minimal disruption to Raubex’s operations.

The Result

After activation, Raubex reported a significant improvement in cellular connectivity across the Heilbron site. Key outcomes included:

  • Reliable voice call connectivity across major networks
  • Improved data speeds for on-site staff
  • Stable coverage within operational areas and offices
  • Enhanced communication between teams, boosting efficiency and safety

The Raubex Heilbron project demonstrates how a customised cellular signal solution can resolve critical connectivity issues in challenging environments. With the WilsonPro A1000 system and high-gain antennas, Bolton Technical successfully delivered a robust, long-term solution to keep Raubex connected where it matters most.
