The Problem

Unfortunately, the newly built estate did not have adequate signal in the apartments and community areas. Due to a lack of cellular signal, residents were unable to contact family members or emergency services. This posed a risk to the residents, particularly those who required the onsite medical services. The team at Royal View Retirement Village contacted us for assistance in finding a solution.

The Solution and Results

Due to the size and scope of this installation, our team had to proceed in phases.  They began by installing systems in the apartment corridors, sending signal from the cable chute into the apartments. Using A1000 Signal Boosters and Yagi Antennas we were able to effectively reach into the apartments.

Chute dilemma

Block One

At Block One, our team installed 4 Arrow LPDA antenna's, 22 Yagi Directional antenna's, 5 A1000 Amplifiers, 6 panel antennas and 4 low profile domes. This system boosted the Cellular signal in the apartments, corridors and facilities in the block.

Here are the signal reading results from block one:

  • Vodacom (Band 3, LTE) — Block 1: Before –120 dB → After –76 dB

  • MTN (Band 8, LTE) — Block 1: Before –111 dB → After –71 dB

  • Vodacom (Band 3, LTE) — Block 1: Before –118 dB → After –76 dB

  • MTN (Band 8, LTE) — Block 1: Before –117 dB → After –71 dB

  • Vodacom (Band 3, LTE) — Block 1: Before –107 dB → After –76 dB

  • MTN (Band 8, LTE) — Block 1: Before –108 dB → After –71 dB

Block Two

At Block Two, our team installed 4 Arrow LPDA antenna's, 26 Yagi Directional antenna's, 5 A1000 Amplifiers, 6 panel antennas.

Here are the signal reading results from block two:

  • Vodacom (Band 3, LTE) — Block 2: Before –117 dB → After –85 dB

  • MTN (Band 8, LTE) — Block 2: Before –118 dB → After –87 dB

  • Vodacom (Band 3, LTE) — Block 2: Before –120 dB → After –85 dB

  • MTN (Band 8, LTE) — Block 2: Before –118 dB → After –87 dB

Communal Area

Our installation team discreetly placed panel and low profile dome antennas in communal areas, like the lounge area and coffee shop, so they were hidden from view but still effectively emitted the amplified signal. They installed 5 A1000 Amplifiers, 6 indoor wall mount antennas, 4 low profile dome antennas, 22 Yagi directional antennas and 4 Arrow LPDA Antennas.

Here are the signal reading results from the communal area:

  • Vodacom (Band 8, LTE) — Communal: Before –117 dB → After –55 dB

  • MTN (Band 3, LTE) — Communal: Before –103 dB → After –62 dB

  • Vodacom (Band 8, LTE) — Communal: Before –117 dB → After –55 dB

Small Outside Area

The residents wanted to stay connected while enjoying some fresh air outside of the coffee shop. Our team installed a WilsonPro A1000 Cell Phone Signal Booster, 2 Arrow LPDA Antenna's and 2 Yagi Antenna's to amplify the cell phone signal in the small outside area.

Here are the signal reading results from the small outside area:

Carrier:

  • Vodacom: Band 1, Frequency LTE, Open Air, Readings Before: -111 dB, Readings After: -88 dB
  • MTN: Band 3, Frequency LTE, Open Air, Readings Before: -95 dB, Readings After: -73 dB

Conclusion

The progress made in strengthening the cellular signal is remarkable. The apartments and facilities used to suffer from dead-spots and calls that were frequently dropped, but now they have strong and dependable reception. Consequently, the residents can now benefit from a seamless and uninterrupted cellular signal.
